Fluorite (M916)
Namibia

LOCATION
Hohenstein, Erongo Mts., Erongo Reg., Namibia
SIZE
75 x 46 x 27 mm
DESCRIPTION
The Erongo Mountains in eastern Namibia cover an area of approximately 1,000 square kilometers, with the highest peak, Hohenstein, reaching an altitude of 2,319 meters. Due to the dry climate and the virtually undeveloped area, the mountains appear inhospitable and forbidding, but they are the livelihood of many small miners. Geologically, it is a well-preserved caldera-like volcano-plutonic structure of late Jurassic age. They are rich in pegmatitic deposits and are also famous for their abundant fluorite deposits. This specimen shows exposed crystals in a deep green color and a combination of wurzel and rhombohedral faces. They sit on snow-white feldspar, which is partly covered with small muscovite crystals. The overall structure is very aesthetic, with no obvious damages.
