Russia

Malkhan, Zabaykalsky Krai, Russia
SIZE
60 x 42 x 21 mm
DESCRIPTION
The Malkhans pegmatites are located in the heart of vast forests southeast of Lake Baikal, bordered by the Khilok and Chikoi rivers. The deposits were discovered in the 1980s by Russian geologists and yielded deep purple, almost prupur-colored tourmalines and multicolored crystals, which are occasionally associated with smoky quartz and cleavelandite. This crystal is actually the endpoints of a large crystal, covered on the back with a thin layer of snow-white quartz. At the base is a slightly lighter, smaller, and thinner crystal that supports the larger one. The surfaces are highly polished, and the edges are razor-sharp. The most striking features are the incredibly intense color and the unusual structure. In my opinion, there are at most two locations in Brazil that can compete with Malkhans in terms of color intensity. All in all, a very unusual piece of first-class quality.
