Boracite (M1545)
Germany
LOCATION
Wathlingen, Celle District, Lower Saxony, Germany
SIZE
118 x 45 x 41 mm
DESCRIPTION
Boracite is generally a rare mineral, found only in 9 countries worldwide. The crystals show dodecahedron {110} and tetrahedron {111} modifying cube {100}. Actually, while this morphological description is correct, boracite is not isometric but orthorhombic at surface temperatures and pressures, and the morphology reflects a pseudosymmetry. The crystals are all isolated and embedded in matrix. This material is incredible rare and very hard to obtain. The size of the crystals, the number of them - all these indicators make this a mayor piece for the locality as well for the mineral. Will come with old labels from the Runge and the famous Berger collection.
