Perovskite was named in 1839 in honor of Count Lev Alekseevich Perovski, Perovski "contributed to the development of mining industry in Russia, inspected supplies and working of lapidary work; many new deposits started to be mined by his initiative." Perovski was also an influential mineral collector. (Schmidt, 2011).

The Chelyabinsk oblast located in the Southern Ural Mts. is famous for the world’s best specimen of Perovskite. And here we have a fantastic specimen of perovskite consisting largely of isolated, lustrous cubes to 17 mm (one with 15, a third with 11mm and several smaller ones) perched on a greenish chlorite group mineral matrix. The cubic crystals of this rare calcium titanium oxide are razor sharp terminated, complete, undamaged and with fantastic texture and highest possible luster. This is truly a mayor piece of the species!
