Gold on Quartz (M301)
Romania

LOCATION
Roșia Montană, Alba County, Romania
SIZE
40 x 38 x 20 mm
DESCRIPTION
Over 2000 years of mining history - so this is a really historic locality. The old Romans, the Habsburg emperors - they all mined there. Today it is more or less impossible for field-collectors to dig there. Material is very rare and hard to obtain and it is the probably most important locality for Gold in Europe (except Russia - in the Asian area). This specimen shows an exceptional large area of well developed, lustrous Gold, which is even set on matrix, which is covered with tiny Quartz crystals.
