Spessartine on Quartz (1059)

Navegador Claim, Penha do Norte, Conselheiro Pena, Minas Gerais, Brazil

73 x 44 x 36 mm

The locality is famous for Spessartine - they are special and you never can mistake them with other localities. The crystals have this wonderful, dark red color - but the typical indicator are the uncountable stepped faces, all these steps are highly lustrous and all faces look like polished. Most crystals are floaters and the common size is between 2 and 3cm. But - and this is the important point - 99% are single crystals, simply caused by their genesis they are never on matrix. And this makes the particular specimen nearly unique - it shows a 42 x 28mm tall main crystal, which is already a very exceptional dimension and it is on matrix! Usually crystals came down from matrix during the etching process - this one didn´t! The „matrix“ is a sharp terminated, lustrous Quartz crystal which makes the whole assemble even mire eye-catching. Usually there are no crystals on matrix from Navegadora - nothing larger than a few millimters. The dimension of this crystal on matrix is absolutely outstanding! The Spessartine is free-standing and also the backside is full developed, the whole crystal consists of these amazing lustrous stepped faces! No significant damages to report.
