Oxi-Kertschenite (828)

Kerch peninsula, Crimea peninsula, Crimea Oblast', Ukraine

8,0 x 6,4 x 4,0 cm

A hydrated phosphate of iron which is an alteration product of Vivianite. Kertschenite developed an exposed red-brown spray set on dark-grey matrix. This „matrix“ is a fossil shell. At the backside you still can see the structure and habit of the shell. The Kertschenite crystals are razor-sharp terminated and all faces are highly lustrous. Very nice contrast, aesthetic, no significant damages to report.
